Last Art Glitter Design Team Post!

So today is my last post being on the Art Glitter Design Team. In no means does that mean I will stop using glitter, because it is a part of my life. Today I wanted to share a story on why glitter is so important to me, you will see that after my quick little post.

Just a quick overview. I used the double glitter technique. I have also used this Dreamweavers stencil before too! To learn how to do this technique, check out THIS post. The only thing I changed was the colors of Art Glitter. Here are some pictures of the process.

I of course peeled it off of the stencil and added another color glitter over the top to get the final look! I then adhered it to a card!

Now onto my glitter obsession background story:

Back in college, 2005 to be exact, it was my Senior Year. Winter was about start, and we had all got back from Thanksgiving break. Finals were coming up and we were all excited about where the new year was going to take us.

I was in a sorority, and there was about 60 of us in the house, and we were all super close. One day in particular plays over and over in my head.

One night, one of our sisters passed away in a hit and run car accident. She was walking. I want to spare any details about the situation, but it is a day I will never forget, it was just so very sad.

I had so many great memories with her. I had recently taken her back to Minnesota to catch the train over Thanksgiving break to visit her sister. She was such an amazing woman. She was beautiful and had the kindest heart. She was smart, part of a loving family, and always giving back to the community.

I will never forget walking outside later that day, because it was the first snow of the season. As a sorority girl, we used glitter in everything we could. Something magical was happening though. The snow looked like glitter, and at that second, we all knew that out dear friend was in Heaven, sprinkling glitter down on all of us. It was very moving. To this day every time I see glitter snow, I know she is there looking down on me. And glitter is so near and dear to my heart because of it.

I want to thank everyone at Art Glitter for this amazing opportunity to be on their design team. I will not be returning this year, since we just moved, and we really want to get settled in Hawaii (and enjoy our pool in our back yard). I will not stop using glitter. I will be experimenting with some new hobbies, and I hope you all continue to take this crafting journey with me! I look forward to seeing what the new design team will be sharing with us!

Glittery Nails

My post is not up at normal time this week because of one big thing… WE MOVED! Finally and I have been super busy getting the house together. Technically it a little after 8am here in Hawaii. So not too bad!

Now on to my project! I thought I would show you the simple method on how to glitter your nails. I don’t have long gorgeous thick nails, so please bare with the pictures.

Products used:

Art Glitter #525 Brocade in Microfine Opaque

Clear Nail Polish, I prefer a kind that is super glossy.

Small Paintbrush

 

I started by painting a thin layer of polish on to the nail. Then dunked my nail into the pot of Art glitter. I let it dry completely. Dusted off the excess glitter with the paintbrush and then put another coat of nail polish on top!

Voilà! Super glittery glossy nails!

Glitter Tattoo!

Did you see that Art Glitter came out with Body Glue!?! I couldn’t wait to get my hand on it and see what it was all about!

If you came by to see what I was quilting, I should have an update later this week on the status of my Hawaiian Quilted Pillow, but on with the glitter!

I ordered a couple stencils, including a cherry stencil, but I know I could probably cut out anything I want out of vinyl on my Cricut. Below are the supplies used.

Supplies:

Art Glitter’s Body Glue (that is on sale until March 25th!)

Art Glitter in #280 Lime Rind Ultrafine Opaque, #333 Red Zone Opaque Hologram

Paintbrush

Stencil

I strayed slightly from the directions that they gave me, because I wanted to make sure my colors didn’t blend. But I started with cleaning my hand and putting the stencil where I wanted the glittered tattoo.

I brushed on the body glue on where I wanted to put my first color. Then sprinkled on the glitter and dusted it off.

I added body glue to the next part, added the glitter, dusted it off then removed the stencil… slowly.

And there you have it a glittered tattoo! I am not going to lie, the kids I know LOVE it! My friends son even tried to smell it yesterday, granted he is only two, so it is ok. I have had it on for almost a week and it is still going strong. About an hour after I put it on, I even showered. – Still sparkly!!

Well I hope you love this, I can’t wait to make one for St. Patrick’s Day! (Not cherries, but I will give it a shot at a shamrock for sure!)

ps. Sorry for my pictures not being the greatest, my camera died. It was so sad, the last picture on my post is literally the last picture my Rebel Xsi took… but in much happier news, I got a new Rebel T4i!  I’ll post about that later!

Glitter Galore!

I love glitter!

Here is a photo of my current collection, missing a couple of containers. They are kind of sorted, but my next step is how do I store these so I can see all the beautiful colors?

Any suggestions?? I am currently trying to figure out my crafting space in the new house… oh yeah, new house! We found a place to live in Hawaii!! YEAH!! One big stressor off my back. I would really love to get a Scrapbox, but the shipping to Hawaii is like $200 extra dollars! And they are expensive in the first place. But it would solve my problem of where to put my craft space EVERYTIME we move. But I don’t really know. I was also thinking of using some sort of shelving since I have tons on paper, and a cricut, and bunch of cartridges. I also have a sewing machine and my fabric collection is growing at a pretty fast rate. Unfortunately I have no room to dedicate to this, and my husband says I can use the dining room table.

Yeah that is at least 75 different colors of glitter… and of course, I still want more! I’m obsessed. It’s official.

Glittered Waves

Today’s project is an inspired art piece. Being out in Hawaii, I am finding some amazing artists. One of the artists I love is Heather Brown. She has some amazing pieces and I encourage you to visit her site to see a bit of her style.

But onto my project. Here is what I created.

Designer Dries Clear Adhesive

Paintbrushes, Permanent Marker, Black Acrylic Paint, Canvas, Canvas Frame.

I started with a blank Canvas. I penciled in the waves that I liked and then went over them with permanent marker.

Then came the fun. Basically a paint by number of Designer Dries Clear and Art Glitter in each of the sections. I wanted it to look like water so I used all sorts of blue colors of glitter. Some were light, and some were dark.

You can click on the “Colors of Glitter” photo to see it larger. After it was dry, I trimmed the edge with Silver glitter.

Then I used black acrylic paint, and went over the lines of where the marker used to be to get a clean, clear, crisp black line.

I love that the glitter picks up the light, and doesn’t at the same time, it works much like the ocean itself. It changes color with the sun and clouds. As you can tell in this photo, where you can see my shadow.

I put it in the canvas frame that I purchased when I bought the canvas, it was right next to them in aisle, and I picked out the size, based on the frame alone. It is great that I can velcro the canvas right into the frame!

Glitter Splatter

I have been really been wanting to use my neon glitter. I love neon, but I just couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do with it. I got to thinking and since it was definitely a throwback to the 80’s, I thought how about splatter paint!

To make splatter paint, sparkly! yes please!

Products used:

Art Glitter (you can choose what colors you like, but I used the following) #233 Blue Hawaii Ultrafine Opaque, #256 Purple Passion Ultrafine Opaque, #221 Punk Pink Ultrafine Opaque Neon, #320 Starship Ultrafine Opaque Hologram, #222 Electric Light Ultrafine Opaque Neon, #79 Black Ultrafine Opaque, #84 Shiney Si Ultrafine Opaque

Designer Dries Clear Adhesive

Spray bottle or some sort of stick (I will explain this later)

Canvas (mine was 12”x36”, I got it 50% off at a craft store)

 

Alright, for starters, I took my canvas, out of the plastic.

Sorry for the next few pictures, the lighting in my mom’s craft room is not the best at all!

I then mixed up some Designer Dries Clear with a little bit of water in a spray bottle. After a few rounds, I enjoyed dipping the stick of the spray bottle into the glue and flinging it on the canvas. But when I started, I was spraying it onto the canvas. Since it was thick it came out in blobs, which it what I wanted, but I liked the dipping method better.

I then took my first glitter color, and sprinkled it on. I let it dry. Then dumped off the glitter (I had a paper ream box on the floor with parchment paper in it, so I could catch the excess glitter)

Then I moved on to adding the next color by repeating the steps. Here you can see I added adhesive after removing the glitter.

I repeated the process, and kept layering colors.

Until I got my desired look. Here is a close up of the splatter.

And the finished product, which I hung proudly in my “former” bedroom at my parents house. I think my dad was sad that there was no glitter in the house after I left. Ok, I don’t think that is really true, but it is a little piece of me that I left for him! All of his car trophy plaques would look way better if they were glittered, but he won’t let me do that.

Merry Glitter Christmas!

Of course, I get to do the honors of having a glitter post on Christmas. And what would be more appropriate too!

Today I have a simple way to decorate for the holidays (and even before and after the holidays). I made some decorative solar candles!

Products Used:

Art Glitter – #280 Lime Rind Ultrafine Opaque, #175 Retro Red Ultrafine Pearlescent, #335 Sun Ray Chunky Opaque Hologram

Double sided tape

Solar Candles

Razor blade or box cutter

Paintbrush (used to dust off excess glitter)

 

I started with my plain candles, that I picked up the hardware store by all the holiday decorations. They came with stakes so if you wanted you could even put them outside.

I started with the double sided tape and made patterns on each of the tree candles.

Then I peeled back one piece of tape, and sprinkled on the desired glitter color.

And I continued to do so, until all of the double sided tape was covered. On some of the patterns, you may need to cut some of the tape. Such as the crossing over style I made. At every intersection, I had to cut the tape so that I could pull the tape off. It took longer, but looked super neat. Here are the completed candles.

Today I have a simple and fun way to add glitter to almost any project! Today I made a simple craft box with stickers and added some sparkle to it all.

The project would make a perfect party favor, or to put a small trinket to give a friend in, and of course you can switch it up for almost ANY occasion.

Tombow: Fastener Tabs (Hook and Loop)

Other: Craft Box, Stickers

I started by assembling a small craft box.

I then added stickers all around it to spice it up! I chose these stickers since I am in Hawaii now and have been traveling the island since I got here. One day, I may not feel like a tourist anymore.

I then added a fastener. The best thing about these Tom Bow fasteners is that you can reuse this box over and over again. I have another project to share later this month on the Art Glitter Blog where I use several more. This was perfect for this spot though. I hate when boxes no longer stay shut after using them and the lid pops back off again. This fastener will be sure to keep this box shut!

I then grabbed my glitter and went to town. Using Designer Dries Clear Adhesive and the ultrafine metal tips, I glittered the stickers. I started with one side, and then finished with the other once it was dry.

For this side I used, Dreams, Sahara, Key Lime, Crystal, and Sun Ray.

On the other side I used Bananan, Fire Engine, Key Lime, and Nite Vision.

Once it was all dry I assembled to box back together and got one perfect little package!
