My Obsessions

So, everyone has an obsession. My obsessions are always changing, and I am always trying to find something new, exciting, and slightly adventurous to do.

Besides my obsession with glitter,

glitter Don’t worry, that’s not all of it…

I have been obsessed with fabric (I am starting to wonder how many time I am going to say “obsessed” in this post).

Lots of fabric.

I started building up a stash of fabric. I do have a sewing machine, but it is in storage, and based on when I can start sewing is based on when I can find a house… which is a huge stressor right now. My husband and I have been living out of suitcases for over a year now.

OK, but what this post is really about. I wanted to share with you some of the fabric I have been collecting along the way. My goal this year is to make a quilt. I really hoping that I love it, because I have a lot of quilts I want to make. I will try to explain what I bought each bit of fabric for.

So my first purchase, which I am going to use to make some sort of quilt for in our guest bedroom which will also be my craft room.

IMG_1202

I am not going to remember most of these collections, but this is Joel Dewberry Aviary 2, Lilac. I decided Purple and Green is going to be my craft room, with bits of light teal and white. This is by far, my FAVORITE collection so far.

I also bought this, and I am hoping one of my many pregnant friends has a girl one day.

IMG_1207

Its fun a geometric. Love the purples and greens, but with some pink in it too.

Next I am going to use as my first quilt. It will be my practice one, and if it turns out good, I know some friends that are going to be having BOYS soon.

IMG_1221

I really love the teal and green dots! I think that is what I would want to back this with, but my plan is to make this a triangle quilt.

The rest of this fat quarter bundle came with these.

IMG_1215

Which are the greens, yellows, and grays. I would make this another quilt.

Next up, fabric that I wanted to make a pillow, but my mom’s sewing machine was broken when I was home so I couldn’t even do that. But I love the bright colors and might be able to do something with it.

IMG_1173

I then purchased a fat quarter bundle of Simply Color in greens and grays. Which I love and would think it would make a beautiful non gender dominant baby quilt for those friends that like the element of surprise!

fab1

But me, no surprises with me. When we do have kids, I am going to find out. But it is going to be giraffe themed, and did you know there is fabric that matches this next group, that has a giraffe print too?! Oh citron and gray, you are going to be my baby blanket! (I am not pregnant)

fab2

I have a girly bundle.

IMG_1210

And I picked up two Hawaiian prints. The blue one, will be a quilt I want to make for our time in Hawaii. But not sure what the black and green one will be used for.

IMG_1255

So, my goal is to make a quilt. And I am not going to lie, I also bought some other fabrics and some stash building fabrics (that will be a surprise) that come in the mail today, so I will need to share those with you!

I also got a cutting mat, rotary cutter, a big ruler, and a triangle ruler. If anyone has any suggestions for a beginner, let me know. My plan is to make quilts, but I might branch out and make other things too… I just have no idea what yet!

Let’s just keep our fingers crossed that I can find a house soon. I am getting really tired of our currently lifestyle. I actually have my stuff spread out between three different places. Thanks to some amazing friends!

Have a great weekend! I might even start cutting up some of this fabric!! That makes me nervous!

Revamping my Sunnies

I know it is cold in most places in the country, but as usual it is gorgeous out here in Hawaii. When my cousin messaged me that is was in the NEGATIVES in Minnesota, I couldn’t help but brag a little about the sunshine here…

photo(2)

I promise this has to do with my glitter project today. And it does. I have a pair of sunglasses… and well, I wear them everyday. They are cheap, and the color is pealing off of them. It is slightly embarrassing, but they are so much more comfortable than my really nice pair, and I have no worries of losing them. But they are UGLY!

So, I took matters into my own hands. Glitter style.

sunglasses2

Products Used:

Art Glitter                                                                                               #531 Beyond Time Microfine Opaque Glitter                                         Designer Dries Clear Adhesive

An old pair of sunglasses (or new!)

Wow, that is really all I used. So here is what I started with.

sunglasses4

Check out these totally peeling glasses! I really needed new ones!

sunglasses3

I took Designer Dries Clear Adhesive and coated one of the sides of the glasses.

sunglasses5

Poured on the Microfine Glitter, shook it off, and let it completely dry.

sunglasses6

Then did the same thing to the other side of the glasses.

sunglasses7

After it all was dry, I put them on, and they looked 10 times better!

sunglasses1

If you want a clear coat over the glitter, you can paint a thin coat of Designer Dries Clear Adhesive over it, but I like the rough look of the straight glitter. I was so excited to use this color. It has a black base to it, with a galactic purple feel to it, maybe that’s why its called Beyond Time!

Well, I hope you enjoyed my sunnies! Be sure to stop by the Art Glitter Blog to see another project I made over there!

Happy Glittering!

Glitter Splatter

I have been really been wanting to use my neon glitter. I love neon, but I just couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do with it. I got to thinking and since it was definitely a throwback to the 80’s, I thought how about splatter paint!

To make splatter paint, sparkly! yes please!

Splatter Glitter

Products used:

Art Glitter (you can choose what colors you like, but I used the following) #233 Blue Hawaii Ultrafine Opaque, #256 Purple Passion Ultrafine Opaque, #221 Punk Pink Ultrafine Opaque Neon, #320 Starship Ultrafine Opaque Hologram, #222 Electric Light Ultrafine Opaque Neon, #79 Black Ultrafine Opaque, #84 Shiney Si Ultrafine Opaque

Designer Dries Clear Adhesive

Spray bottle or some sort of stick (I will explain this later)

Canvas (mine was 12”x36”, I got it 50% off at a craft store)

Alright, for starters, I took my canvas, out of the plastic.

splatter2

Sorry for the next few pictures, the lighting in my mom’s craft room is not the best at all!

I then mixed up some Designer Dries Clear with a little bit of water in a spray bottle. After a few rounds, I enjoyed dipping the stick of the spray bottle into the glue and flinging it on the canvas. But when I started, I was spraying it onto the canvas. Since it was thick it came out in blobs, which it what I wanted, but I liked the dipping method better.

splatter3

I then took my first glitter color, and sprinkled it on. I let it dry. Then dumped off the glitter (I had a paper ream box on the floor with parchment paper in it, so I could catch the excess glitter)

Then I moved on to adding the next color by repeating the steps. Here you can see I added adhesive after removing the glitter.

splatter4

I repeated the process, and kept layering colors.

splatter5

Until I got my desired look. Here is a close up of the splatter.

Splatter Glitter

And the finished product, which I hung proudly in my “former” bedroom at my parents house. I think my dad was sad that there was no glitter in the house after I left. Ok, I don’t think that is really true, but it is a little piece of me that I left for him! All of his car trophy plaques would look way better if they were glittered, but he won’t let me do that.

Splatter Glitter

Now this is totally “Me”. Now you could make one that is totally YOU! If you have time, can please stop by the Art Glitter Blog, I have a project posted there that I am in LOVE with that I made! A sneak peak maybe?

Glitter Stem

Oh yes, So swing by the Art Glitter Blog to see the entire thing! A-MAZING!

Have a wonderful day, and keep on glittering! I am so excited to head back to Hawaii soon!!

Happy New Year!

Oh I feel like this trip has been crazy. I flew home spur of the moment a couple weeks ago, because my mom had surgery. Now, and I am in Minnesota (and oh my its cold!)

So here is what I have been up to besides glittering (I should have a sign that says, “I travel with glitter” on my bag)!

photo

That is me and my friend Emily, her Brother in Law cleared off the pond to skate on, of course I get the picture taken AFTER I take my skates off!

DSC02509

This one is taken on NYE, we headed out there bundled up and all in boots this time. I’m in the middle. These two girls both went to Iowa State with me and we are all sorority sisters, Anna on the right, is my Big Sis! Emily on the left is my Heart Sis, and I have known her since 6th grade.

DSC02511

These girls are the best! I was even able to celebrate with them last year too!

IMG_0757

Now rewinding, here is 4 generations at Christmas. My grandma, my dad, my brother, and my two nephews!

IMG_0766

I finally got my snow! I was so excited for this! So excited!

Well, I better get in the craft room. I need to get some glitter stuff going on, and some other ideas I have brewing up! Lets hope for a craftier new year!
